Key facts
Quebecers consider themselves ardent recyclers (curbside recycling and deposit system combined):
- Nearly all homes claim to recycle: 94% of respondants live in a home where at least one person recycles;
- The actual respondants themselves are very much involved in recycling:
- 86% claim to actively participate in curbside recycling (very much or quite)
- 80% actively participate in returning deposit containers.
Participation in curbside recycling is very favorable as the vast majority either owns a blue box or has access to one at home.
Quebecers also have a good level of knowledge of the recycling systems:
- 96% are aware of curbside recycling
- 87% have spontaneous knowledge of the deposit system (without alluding to a specific product with a deposit);
- By including the respondants who allude to the deposit system when prompted to soft-drink and beer products, the awareness level is an impressive 100%;
- 91% are aware that beer and soft-drinks carry a deposit.
Consumption of soft-drinks is very timely: on a typical month during the 6 months preceding the survey, nearly 8 respondants out of 10 (79%) claim to have consumed a soft-drink. However, 21% claim to not consume soft-drinks at all.
