In 2008 actual recovery were 680 million aluminum containers (including beer cans with a 5¢ deposit), 200 million plastic bottles and 5 million glass bottles for a total of approximately 21,260 metric tons.

21,260 metric tons is equivalent to 52 Boeing 747’s, or 5,080 elephants that were not directed to landfill sites.

Annually, the soft-drink bottlers, through BGE, invest approximately 2 million dollars programs to improve the recovery infrastructure as well as awareness programs.
